The French Paillard Fig (Ficus carica ‘French Paillard’), also known as Franche Paillard or Abondance, is a vigorous heirloom variety likely originating from France in the late 19th century. It produces two crops annually: a small early breba crop in late June/July and a prolific main crop in September/October, featuring medium-sized, pear-shaped violet-brown fruit with deep red, juicy flesh. The tree grows 3–4 m high and 2–3 m wide, forming a spreading canopy suited to home orchards or large gardens. Best suited to Mediterranean to temperate climates, it can also thrive in warm temperate to subtropical areas with full sun, well-drained soil, and regular watering while establishing.
