Our Story
How Our Family Nursery Was Born
Daniel, the founder of Ladybird Nursery, is a passionate horticulturist from Brisbane. With years of hands-on experience and professional training in plant cultivation, soil science, and sustainable gardening practices, he has dedicated the past decade to mastering the art of growing fruit trees — and helping others do the same. From the beginning, Daniel’s focus was on working with nature, not against it — using organic, chemical-free, and eco-friendly methods that protect the soil and promote healthy growth for generations to come.
The inspiration for Ladybird Nursery began in Lingshan, Southern China, where Coco’s aunt transformed her rooftop into a lush urban paradise. Her garden, overflowing with tropical fruits and vegetables, provided not just food but also a sense of peace and connection to the natural world. This blend of tradition, innovation, and respect for nature inspired us to bring the same vision home to Australia, where it would take root in a very different climate.
Brisbane’s subtropical conditions presented their own challenges — baking hot summers and stubborn clay soils. With Daniel’s horticultural knowledge and commitment to sustainable growing, we began experimenting, adapting, and refining our methods to ensure success even in the toughest conditions. We focused on improving soil health organically, recycling natural materials, and encouraging biodiversity. The result was a flourishing food forest that soon became the talk of the neighbourhood, and ultimately, the seed from which the nursery would grow.
In 2015, our love for plants and the joy of sharing them with others brought the nursery to life. The nursery was named after our first home on Ladybird Street, where the dream first began. As our reputation spread, demand increased, and people started requesting deliveries of our fruit trees and plants across Australia.
Today, our team of 15 skilled professionals continues to share that same vision, helping gardening enthusiasts connect, learn, and grow while promoting sustainable, eco-conscious practices in every garden. We love sharing knowledge, offering personalised advice, and supporting our community of growers. Our expert team helps even beginners experience the joy of harvesting fruit from their own chemical-free, sustainable backyard.
Running a nursery hasn’t been without its challenges — from competing with large retailers to working through unpredictable weather — but each challenge has been an opportunity to learn and improve. Our dedicated team of horticultural experts ensures every plant we grow is nurtured with care, using environmentally responsible methods, and delivered at a healthy, garden-ready size, giving customers the best possible start.
At Ladybird, we don’t just sell plants — we build relationships. Our commitment to quality, sustainability, and genuine customer care sets us apart. Whether you’re planting your first backyard orchard, expanding a thriving garden, or taking steps toward a more self-sufficient lifestyle, our team is here to help every step of the way.
Your stories and successes continue to inspire us. We’re proud to be part of your gardening journey, and your support helps us keep growing and innovating. We’d love to hear how your fruit trees are thriving — we’re open seven days a week and always here to help.
Happy Gardening,
Daniel, Coco, and the Team at Ladybird Fruit Tree Nursery
