Flowering Cherry ‘Rubra’ (Prunus campanulata)

Flowering Cherry ‘Rubra’ (Prunus campanulata), also known as the Formosan Cherry, is a stunning ornamental tree celebrated for its masses of deep pink, bell-shaped blossoms that appear in late winter to early spring. A selected cultivar of the Taiwan Cherry (Prunus campanulata), ‘Rubra’ is prized for its richer and more intense flower colour compared to the straight species. Growing 4–6m tall with a rounded canopy, it makes a striking feature tree and provides early colour for the garden when many other plants are still dormant. The flowers attract bees and pollinators, while the glossy green foliage creates year-round appeal. Best grown in full sun with well-drained soil, this hardy tree thrives in cool to mild climates and brings vibrant seasonal beauty to landscapes and gardens.
