Pittosporum phillyreoides (also known as Gumbi Gumbi, Butterbush, or Weeping Pittosporum) is an attractive Australian native with slender, willowy leaves and softly hanging branches. It grows to around 4–6 metres high with a 2–3 metre spread, making it suitable for small gardens, feature planting, or large pots. Traditionally used in Aboriginal bush medicine, Gumbi Gumbi is often grown for its aromatic leaves, which may be used fresh or dried to make herbal tea. This evergreen species is drought and frost tolerant once established and thrives in full sun in a wide range of soils, provided drainage is good. Small orange fruit appear on the tree; these are ornamental only and not edible.
