Elephant Foot Yam (Amorphophallus paeoniifolius)

Elephant Foot Yam is a tropical plant known for its large, umbrella-like foliage and unique, deep maroon spathe that emerges from a thick, mottled stem. Growing up to 1.5 m tall, it’s ideal for adding a bold, exotic element to garden beds or large containers. This plant thrives in full to partial shade and prefers well-drained, humus-rich soil. It’s a low-maintenance plant that dies back in winter, returning with impressive growth each season. The underground tuber is edible and used in various cuisines.
